Folk Music
The term folk music is extremely broad and encompasses many different types and styles of traditional music from around the world. A great deal of western folk music remains especially popular to this day and there are many artists who have become especially famous for playing this style of music, notably Bob Dylan. There are a huge number of folk acts and more are being founded. One of the main appeals of folk music is that is an area of music open to anybody, there is little in the way of elitism and snobbery that is often associated with other forms of music.
The various types of folk music from different periods of time and cultures from around the world are very different. For example the traditional music of Japan contrasts greatly with the traditional music of England. However despite the huge variation in folk music around the world most nations’ traditional music remains fairly popular in its respective nation. Many contemporary musicians playing rock or pop music will often incorporate elements of traditional folk music into their compositions especially in recent years as this has become quite fashionable in the contemporary music scene.
The various types of folk music remain popular across the world; particularly the western European style of folk music which is enjoys success in many different nations. Folk music festivals are quite a common occurrence, particularly in the UK during the summer months and these festivals will usually see a wide variety of different folk acts performing.
